The Golden Calf

The Golden Calf

I honour you, oh Golden Calf,
for shining in the light,
so bright with radiation
reflecting in my sight,

We made you in devotion,
we did the best we could,
and now we sit in "Ah" of you,
oh gold and holy wood;

The people thus devoted,
their focus and their time,
to call upon their glory,
reflecting the Divine;

Forgetting All, Forgetting Joy,
they called from feet of clay,
to their sweet holy idol,
up-to-which today they pray;

Projecting but their fear inside,
to calls for love on earth,
forgetting their connection to
the Love, their Source, their Worth;

Then Moses came a wandering,
from holy mountain top,
and saw his people thus entwinded
and said "that this must stop!"

How could we all be One in God,
if they today thus pray,
to holy wood and gold to dust,
to things that thus decay?;

For God is everlasting,
perfect in every way,
and if they pray to him outside,
they must see him this way;

So if I break the idol,
maybe they'll see anew,
and see the Lord of heaven,
inside themselves renew;

So Moses threw the tablets,
upon the Golden Calf,
to give a chance to Israel,
that they may live at last;

Then fear covered it over,
the purpose of the task,
and all proclaimed that God's to fear,
our death he wants at last;

The story has a moral,
for us this very day,
though we live far from Sinai,
to Calves we often pray;

Our Gods of gold we pray to,
on them we focus thus,
our energy and time in space,
created for our rush;

Maybe they walk in high heels,
maybe in jeans so tight,
to take their innocence from them,
that we could feel so right;

Maybe a shiny sports car,
to turn the ladies heads,
to get them close so we can do
--well take them all to bed;

In each idol that we look at,
something's there to fill our lack,
the thought inside we 're separate,
cut off, and now we're black;

So recognize the purpose,
of idols in your life,
and let Moses come take you home,
to live in holy light;

The holiest prayer father,
that Moses gave to me,
is "hear oh Israel, you are One"
and One means One with Me.
